Cakes from parties attended by Mary and/or the Rock Ceilidh Band

Yum. One of the talking points of a party is the cake, and we have been privileged to have tasted many cakes over the years, to the point that we feel like we are expert cake tasters! Luckily, as ceilidh dancing uses up so many calories, cakes can pretty much be eaten guilt-free.

In addition, we have noticed (in our apparently expert opinion), when a cake has a few tiers, each tier tends to be a different cake – e.g. the most popular being from one of the following – fruit cake, chocolate, madiera, lemon cake and red velvet. Here are some of the impressive cakes that we have photographed (and sometimes tasted) over the years starting with those which have a Scottish connection. We do not know who created them and unfortunately cannot credit them, however we hope these will inspire you!

A wedding cake made to look like three Tunnocks tea cakes.

This has to be one of the most unusual Scottish cakes we have seen – can you get any more Scottish than a Tunnocks Teacake?

Melanie and Sheilagh’s cake had autumnal flora on top for their 31st October Anniversary celebration, as well as a purple ribbon adorned with a sparkling brooch.

This lovely three tiered anniversary cake also had a very Scottish vibe to it.

Sculpted bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen sliding down the outside of a castle

Apologies for the bad quality of the photo – however we hope you will see this fun-loving bride and groom sliding down this Scottish castle with their wedding party!

Three tier white wedding cake decorated with green celtic triquetra hearts and purple thistle icing in addition to floral arrangements of sea holly and roses

This beautiful wedding cake also has a Scottish vibe and is the only cake I have ever seen with this triquetra and thistle piping on it.

This beautiful three-tier wedding cake was adorned with a lego bride and groom under a cute white lego arch and was ornamented with sea holly and roses.

Scottish thistles do not tend to be suitable for floral displays so sea holly is a great replacement. Here we see the couple’s combined love for their Scottish heritage, with their fun side – a lego cake topper!

This tall semi-naked cake not only had a porcelain bride and groom on the top, but also their black laborador. The cake was also adorned with brightly coloured flowers.

Our fiddle player, Mary, played for the wedding ceremony and can confirm the bride and groom’s black laborador also had a leading role in their wedding ceremony!

Three tier white cake with morris-like texture, diamante trim and mirrored topper

The sculpted texture on this lovely white wedding cake was beautiful up close, and the diamante ribbons and mirrored topper gave an elegant touch.

Wedding cake with floral arrangements and sign that says ‘Love’

This tall, single tiered, white wedding cake had a lovely, rustic texture to it with a floral display and a topper that simply said ‘Love’.

The size of this wedding cake alone was impressive and did not require any ornaments.

The different heights of the various tiers of this cake added interest.

Two tier white cake with delicate floral sugar sculpture.

This beautiful white 50th Anniversary cake with floral piping, sugar sculpture and gold ribbon trim had the perfect cake stand on top of the Lindores Abbey Distillery barrel!

This 3 and 0 birthday cake for Cerys had icing sculpted memories from her surprise holiday to Croatia as well as her favorite hobbies.

A lot of thought had obviously gone into Cerys’ birthday cake which was a surprise designed by her loving husband and parents.
